A shot blasting machine for cleaning metal surfaces is a versatile industrial system designed to remove rust, paint, mill scale, and contaminants from metal components, preparing them for coating, welding, or assembly. Unlike sandblasting, which uses compressed air, shot blasting employs high-speed centrifugal wheels (up to 15,000 RPM) to propel steel shots or grit, delivering more consistent force and coverage—ideal for large or heavy parts like structural steel, engine blocks, or industrial machinery.
The machine’s design includes a robust blasting chamber with adjustable wheel configurations (typically 2–8 wheels) positioned to target all surfaces of the workpiece, which is transported via conveyor, rotary table, or hook system. Automated controls regulate wheel speed, shot flow, and part movement to match metal type and condition: high-carbon steel may require aggressive blasting to remove thick scale, while aluminum needs gentler treatment to avoid surface damage. A closed-loop media recycling system is integral, using magnetic separators to remove ferrous contaminants and screens to sort shots by size, reusing up to 95% of material. This reduces operational costs and minimizes waste. In construction, these machines clean I-beams and girders for painting; in automotive manufacturing, they prepare chassis components for E-coating; in foundries, they remove casting sand from metal parts. Safety features include noise-dampening enclosures, interlocked access doors, and HEPA filtration to capture metal dust.
