Sand Blasting Machine Operation Manual

An operation manual is essential for safe and efficient use of sand blasting machines. Below is a structured guide covering key operational steps:

 Pre Operation Preparations

1. Safety Gear: Wear a certified blasting helmet with a fresh visor, ear protection, and protective clothing (e.g., rubber gloves, coveralls). Ensure the helmets air supply is clean and pressurized.

2. Machine Setup:

Position the machine on a level surface. For portable units, secure wheels or use stabilizers.

Connect the air compressor to the machine with a rated hose (e.g., 3/8" ID for 100 PSI). Verify the compressors pressure matches the machines requirements.

Fill the hopper with approved abrasive media, avoiding overloading (max fill level is typically 2/3 of hopper capacity).

3. Environmental Safety:

In enclosed spaces, activate dust collection systems and ensure proper ventilation.

Mark off the work area to prevent unauthorized access. Remove flammable materials and ground the machine to avoid static buildup.

 Step by Step Operation

1. Power On and Pressure Adjustment:

Turn on the air compressor and allow it to reach full pressure (e.g., 120 PSI). Adjust the machines pressure regulator to 80100 PSI for most applications.

Test the blasting gun by triggering it into a safe area (e.g., a sand pit) to ensure consistent media flow.

2. Blasting Technique:

Hold the blasting gun 612 inches from the surface at a 45° angle. Move the gun in overlapping, sweeping motions to avoid uneven blasting.

For delicate surfaces (e.g., aluminum), use lower pressure (5070 PSI) and finer media (e.g., glass beads). For tough rust or paint, increase pressure and use coarser media (e.g., steel grit).

3. Monitoring Performance:

Check the pressure gauge regularly to ensure stability. If pressure drops, pause operation and troubleshoot leaks or compressor issues.

Inspect the surface periodically to avoid over blasting, which can cause material damage (e.g., pitting in metal).

 Post Operation Procedures

1. Shutdown Steps:

Release all pressure in the system by triggering the blasting gun until no air flows.

Turn off the compressor and disconnect the air hose.

Empty unused abrasive media from the hopper and store it in a dry container.

2. Cleaning and Inspection:

Vacuum the blasting chamber and hoses to remove debris. Wipe down the machine with a dry cloth to prevent rust.

Inspect components for wear (e.g., nozzle, hoses, filters) and note any issues for maintenance.

 Safety Guidelines

Never point the blasting gun at people, animals, or electrical equipment.

Avoid blasting in wet conditions, as moisture can cause media clogs and electrical hazards.

Take breaks every 30 minutes in enclosed spaces to prevent fatigue and overheating.
